VARCHAR primary key / set relation_n_n

Sets a relation with n-n relationship. Dont Work in case of  

. the primary key  of the basic table (film)  and selection table  table (actor )  is a varchar. 

Question : what i 've to do in cas of varchar primary key in tables ? Merci

Never tried in with it but dose it give any error as such for the same or what?
